Hoof Stands
This is just going to be a short article. It's about stands to place a horses hoof onto whilst you are trimming their hooves.
In the pictures below you can see that any handyman with a welder can make a basic one.
The one below is made for our Shetlands but has been used on larger horses as well. This one has no moving parts and is therefore set to just 1 height.
The base is a disc from an old disc plough. It has an upright welded to the middle with three supports. They are to strengthen the middle, as that will be taking the weight when the horse's hoof is on the stand.
The next one will need a few more skills to make at home. This one
has an adjustable centre.
It can be locked in place by the screw on the side. You could drill and tap the centre support. Or, as we have done here, you could drill a hole and weld a matching nut instead of tapping the hole to match your bolt / screw.
You can see that we have about six inches ( 150mm ) of movement with the stand shown.
It could be made from circular tube and only have 3 legs.
Our next one will have 3 legs as it will be easier to make it stable.
